I was a bit concerned when I started this project, but it's turned out really well so far.
In early 2008, I started working on a new website for the VA hospital system. I have always been very interested in improving the quality of VA canada provinces set strict caps on generic drug prices health care and was especially curious about how to improve the health care being delivered in the state I was serving. One of the ideas I wanted to explore was finding the highest quality health care possible for veterans. I had read that in general, veterans receive a lower quality of care than non-veterans. In my experience, that was usually because the medical providers at Veterans Affairs hospitals didn't have the experience to handle most chronic conditions. In other words, many veterans were not getting good quality health care in VA hospitals. If I could find ways to improve the quality of health care for veterans, I thought it would go a long way toward improving the quality of health care in this state.
A lot of this new website was very technical, so at first I thought this was going to be quite expensive. It turns out that the new software I was able to develop (known as MIND: Medical Insights for Patients) was very affordable and well worth it. once the website was up and running, the results were immediate. I found thousands more veterans who were suffering for their medical conditions and were receiving the care they needed. I also saw a huge increase in the volume of patients being seen every evening on average. That was a big step.

Once we established a good relationship with VA health care providers at various hospitals, their response was also better and we gained a greater number of volunteers and donors. By the end of August 2009, we had a system in place that allowed VA doctors to be more proactive in trying to find treatments for veterans when they were most likely to have a problem. I was also able to start the process on finding hospital where veterans would have to go if they needed an emergency room for treatment.
